Kevin Vavasseur has worked extensively in film and television production including positions as Creative Assistant to the President Worldwide Production Columbia Pictures, as well as Executive Assistant to other top level executives and producers, including the Vice Chairman, at Sony Pictures Entertainment. He worked on many feature films during these years including, Men in Black, Air Force One, Bad Boys and The Cable Guy. He also had a short but interesting run working with Paula Abdul at her production company and was a Creative Executive at Field Entertainment. He was a First Assistant Director in music videos for three years, where he worked with top musical acts including, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, The Whispers, Troop and Stevie Wonder. He also worked for the Carsey-Werner company during its heyday, supporting many shows including A Different World, Roseanne, Grace Under Fire and various pilots. Taking a short respite from the Entertainment industry, he served four years as the Administrator of the University of Southern California Institute for Global Health, located within the USC/Keck School of Medicine. The Institute oversaw the undergraduate and graduate programs in Global Health at USC and also created domestic and international global health projects with partners from around the world.
Creatively, he is a director, actor, teacher and writer whose credits include work at Highways Performance Space, Theater @ Boston Court, Odyssey Theater, Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company, H.E.R.E, Company of Angels, Los Angeles Theater Center, The Gene Frankel Theater, Edinburgh International Arts Festival, New York International Fringe Festival, Shakespeare & Company, London Shakespeare Studio and Lincoln Center. An NAACP Image, GLAAD Media and LADCC Award nominee for acting, he is a Lincoln Center Directors' Lab alum and a Stage Directors and Choreographers Union associate member. He had a recurring role on the NBC sitcom, A Different World and also played a pirate in Steven Spielberg’s classic film, Hook.
In 2013, he fulfilled a life-long dream of re-locating to New York City and began graduate work at New York University. In September 2016, he completed a Master of Arts degree at the NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study where he self-designed his curriculum which combined theater, gender studies and sociology. His research examines how theater can provide an empathetic experience for audience members, which may then be implemented outside of the theatrical setting to help create more inclusive interpersonal encounters. He is a faculty member of the world renowned actor training programs at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA. where he teaches text and the Shakespeare & Company approach to classical acting.
